14 day cruise from Moscow to Astrakhan
Day 1: Moscow
Arrival at Moscow airport, processing of customs formalities and transfer to the motorboat. Check-in, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Moscow
Breakfast, lunch and dinner. Russia's cosmopolitan capital is the perfect blend of old and new. It is the city of long avenues, majestic squares, tree-lined avenues, parks and gardens. Crossed by the imposing granite embankments of the Moskva River. The city tour bus will take you to the Collina dei Passeri from which you will see a breathtaking view of the city. You will visit Red Square, where the kaleidoscopic domes of St. Basil's Cathedral are located, the long facade of the GUM department store and, of course, the Kremlin. You will enter the territory of the Kremlin (internal visit to 1 of the cathedrals). Overnight stay.
Day 3: Moscow
Breakfast. Visit the famous Tretyakov Gallery, which tells Russian history like no history textbook could. Lunch on the motorboat. In the late afternoon start of navigation, dinner on board. Evening at leisure to enjoy the on-board atmosphere enlivened by music and dancing. Overnight stay.
Day 4: Uglich
Breakfast. During the morning, various activities will be proposed by the guide and information on upcoming visits. Lunch on board. In the afternoon arrival in Uglich, visit the Kremlin territory, the Transfiguration Cathedral and the Church of Dimitry on Spilled Blood. Return to the motorboat and dinner on board, while the navigation continues towards Yaroslav. Overnight stay.
Day 5: Yaroslavl/Kostroma
Breakfast. Start of the city bus tour. Visit the Church of the Prophet Elijah (exterior), the Church of St. Nicholas (interior) and the Governor's Palace with its art gallery (interior). Stop at the local market. Return on board for lunch, while navigation continues towards Kostroma. Arrival in Kostroma and bus city tour. Visit to Ipatiev Monastery and Trinity Cathedral. Dinner on board. Overnight stay.
Day 6: Nizhny Novgorod
Breakfast, lunch and dinner on board. Locals simply call it “Nizhny”, the city which is located in an enviable geographical position overlooking the Volga and Oka rivers. Its ancient Kremlin, included in the guided tour, and the pleasant pedestrian walk on the "Pokrovka" make it a fascinating place for our tour.
Day 7: Cheboksary
Breakfast, lunch and dinner on board. Bus city tour. Capital of the Chuvash Republic in the Volga region, Cheboksary was founded in the mid-15th century. A fortress was built there in 1555, but the city was simply an isolated bend until the railway was built in 1939. There are many old churches and monasteries, among them the Vvedensky Cathedral (1657) and the Holy Monastery Trinity (1566).
Day 8: Kazan
Breakfast, lunch and dinner on board. Kazan has a fascinating past, founded by the Mongols, it became the capital of one of the four khanates of the Golden Horde (territories into which the Mongol empire was divided upon the death of Genghis Khan. It was conquered by Ivan the Terrible in the 16th century. This multifaceted history has led the city to be what it is today: half Russian and half Tatar, a fascinating blend of Muslim culture and Christian culture, a unique mix that distinguishes it from the other cities you will visit on this trip. a guided tour of his Kremlin is included.
Day 9: Samara
Breakfast, lunch and dinner on board. In Soviet times, known as Kuybyshev, Samara was a closed city, far from the rest of the world. Like Samara, some closed cities were built near lakes and rivers used to supply large quantities of water, needed for heavy industry and nuclear technology. Luckily, it has now become a city open to tourism. There will be a bus tour of the city with a visit to the art gallery.
Day 10: Saratov
Breakfast, lunch and dinner on board. We will carry out a bus city tour of Saratov, another former closed city, this time for the production of military aircraft. Its name probably derives from "Sary tau" or yellow mountain as the city is surrounded by sandy hills. It was once an autonomous republic, the area where the Volga Germans settled until they were relocated to Siberia and Kazakhstan during World War II.
Day 11: Volgograd
Breakfast, lunch and dinner on board. Volgograd has the status of "City of Heroes", an honor bestowed as a result of the suffering endured during World War II. Formerly known as Tsaritsyn and then Stalingrad, Hitler ordered the bombing of the city as he attempted to advance on the Eastern Front. Two hundred days of bombing took a huge toll, leaving an estimated 1-2 million casualties on both sides. The guided city bus tour will take you to the “Mamaev Kurgan”, the Stalingrad battle memorial.
Day 12: Navigation
Breakfast, lunch and dinner on board. Animation and entertainment activities.
Day 13: Astrakhan
Breakfast, lunch and dinner. Arrival in Astrakhan means that you have reached the Volga delta. Located about 100 km from the Caspian Sea, the city dates back to the 13th century. It was originally a key city of the Golden Horde and later the capital of the Astrakhan Khanate. Destroyed by the forces of Ivan the Terrible, it was rebuilt by the Russians and became an important commercial center, also for the production of caviar. The guided city tour also includes a visit to the city's Kremlin.
Day 14: Astrakhan
Breakfast. Transfer to the airport.
